The compilation of FOCI was initiated with an aim to share, an aim to focus onto sounds, to listen to and to hear each other.

The point of departure was thinking about focus: what do we draw into focus, and what do we tend to blur out (in our field of vision)? What do we allow our mind to turn to in the time of turmoil, loss, grief, uncertainty? What guides our choices?

Hence came FOCI (pl., Latin), which means hearth, fireplace, altar, home etc., as a method as well as a tool. It was imagined as a quiet nonphysical space for exploration as well as a temporal escape, a virtual timespace amid the storm. Or maybe an exchange of creative energy, or place of dialogue, or yet something else altogether.

So to mark the end of a not-that-uneventful year, we are inviting you to focus on the seven works by six artists, that explore human place on earth, resilience, dirt and sanctity, chaos and complexity, intensity and multiplicity, the novel and the known, the texture and the depth.
